Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does solar cost?

The cost to install solar varies depending on the specific system needed for your home. There are lots of variables, and every system is unique. Our goal is to first make sure we are putting a system together that meets your energy goals, then do it in the most economical way possible.

  • Will PG&E pay me for excess power my solar generates?

Yes! PG&E will give you credits for you excess power produced during the sunny hours of the day to be used once it is dark outside and your solar panels are no longer producing. At your true-up time, you will have the option to receive credit towards the following cycle, or receive a check in the mail. Rolling your energy credits into the next cycle is the best option. • How long is the warranty on my solar installation?

SIG Solar Placerville provides systems with a 25 year warranty on components, and a 25 year warranty on the installation. That means if anything happens to your system that is a result of equipment or installation failure, we cover all costs associated with getting it fixed! This also includes our roof mounting points. Batteries are covered by a 10 year manufacturer's warranty, with an option for a 15 year extended warranty.

  • What happens if my solar panels are damaged by a tree or other accident?

After your system is installed, you will add it to your homeowner's insurance. Solar is considered a permanent attachment to your property and any damage to your system should be covered. However, you should always speak with your insurance company about coverage with your specific policy.

  • I want to go solar, but need a new roof. What are my options?

Many people want to go solar, but need a new roof first. We work with local roofing companies to coordinate your new roof, and solar install. We can combine financing for both projects so the customer has 1 monthly payment. Most importantly, customers receive the 26% tax credit on the entire roof+solar project. That adds up to tens of thousands of dollars in savings!

  • Does solar work during a power outage?

If the solar system is installed with battery storage, the battery system can power your home during a power outage. If your system does not include battery storage, your solar system will not generate when the grid is down for safety reasons. This is one of the main factors for including battery storage with your solar installation.

  • Can you put solar on a mobile home?

Solar can be installed on a mobile home, as long as it is a cash purchase. Unfortunately, we cannot put financed solar on a mobile home. However, we can install solar for a mobile home on a raised carport or ground mount located on the property.

  • Can you put solar on a manufactured home?

Yes! We can put solar on manufactured homes. We will need documentation on your home including the decal number, manufacturer name and model, year produced, serial numbers, and HUD labels. We can do a roof top mount which is ideal. We can also do a ground mount system if it better fits your specific property and situation. • How much are up-front costs for installing solar?

This depends on if the system is being purchased with cash or financed. For a cash purchase, we require 10% down at signing. If it is financed, there are no up-front costs. We can install customer-owned solar (no lease) with zero money down! Not only that, but your monthly financing payment will be 30%-50% cheaper than your average PG&E bill before going solar.

  • What size solar install do I need?

The size of your solar install depends on what your 12-month average electrical usage is for your home, as well as future plans you might have. No two systems are the same. We design each system specifically for what the homeowner needs. If it is a new home purchase, we can estimate usage based on the size of the home, location, number of people,  appliances, pool/spa, workshop, electric vehicle charging, and other factors that may affect power needs.
